This political cartoon illustrates a working class man from "Wisconsin to Missouri" taking control and going South where there's cheap labor and ample amounts of land available after the Civil War.
this political cartoon gives us the image of how the north felt after the Emacipation Proclamation. in all fairness, the North was the primary driving force to help or motivate this law to be passed but the north was flooded with freed slaves. the northerners were happy that the slaves in the south, or confederate slaves, were freed but when they started coming to the north, the already high population increased even more. we see a man traveling to the south with the job title of "carpet cleaner". is there a possibility that his job was replaced by an African american who work for a lesser rate? the possibilities are endless.
The political cartoon shows a man going towards the South in search of a job after what may have been overpopulation of blacks in the North. Black slaves may have worked for cheaper labor causing the white man to go somewhere else such as missouri in search for a job.
After the emancipation was passed, many slaves were freed but they faced the dilemma of being jobless. The slaves took the jobs for less pay causing disruption for white northerns; at this the white northerns had no choice but to move to the south in search of jobs
